Built-In Heaters
Electric Heaters
- Electric Heaters are less expensive to buy but usually more expensive to operate
- Electric Heaters radiate heat and warm objects in their path - which means a breeze will not diminish the its heating capacity
- They come in 39" and 61" lengths and are available with one or two heating elements.
- Single element heaters have an incremental control to turn up or down the amount of heat
- Dual element heaters have two switches, one to control each element, so the heater has a "mid" setting with one bulb on, one bulb off
- Based on the size of the heater and the number of elements, they will heat an area from 8' x 8' to 11' by 11'
- The heaters are 240 v and require dedicated circuits
- Electric heaters can be recessed into a ceiling for a "flush" finished look
- If mounted to a wall they operate best at 8' feet high and need 18" of clearance between the top of the heater and any combustible

Gas Heaters
- Gas heaters are more expensive to purchase but are usually less expensive to operate
- Gas heaters warm the air to warm you, so are more affected by a breeze
- All gas heaters are 48" long
- Only one gas heater has a "mid" temperature setting, so it can be off, medium or high
- Most gas heaters also require electricity for the ignition system but one model will ignite with batteries saving the cost to have electrical pulled
- Most gas heaters are turned on by a switch but some have a remote option, one is hand held
- Gas heaters will warm an area from 10' wide to as much as 15' deep
- Gas heaters can not be recessed, but can be installed on a ceiling or wall.
- Gas heaters also work best when mounted 8' off the ground but require 24" of clearance from the top to any combustible above them
